(Makes about 60 fingers)

1 cup of room temperature butter

1 cup of confectioners sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon of almond extract

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

2 2/3 cups of all purpose flour

1 teaspoon of baking powder

3/4 cups of whole almonds

A bit of strawberry jam

1/2 cup of chocolate chips (optional)

  1. Mix the butter, sugar, egg, almond extract and vanilla extract in a large bowl.

  2. Beat together with an electric mixer

  3. Gradually add the flour and baking powder while continuously beating the mixture.

  4. When all the ingredients have been smoothly blended in, refrigerate for 20 – 30 minutes.

  5. Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C), and lightly grease baking sheets

  6. Remove dough from refrigerator in small amounts. Scoop 1 teaspoon at a time onto a piece of waxed paper. Use the waxed paper to roll the dough into a thin finger-shaped cookie.

  7. Dip an almond into the strawberry jam.

  8. Press the almond into one end of the cookie, to give the cookie a long, red, pointy fingernail.

  9. Squeeze the near the tip and near the center of each cookie to give the cookie knuckles.

   10.  Spread the cookies out on the baking sheets.

   11.  Bake in the oven for 20 – 25 minutes, or until the cookies are a warm golden colour.

   12.  Press a few chocolate chips onto the finger to give it warts.

You can add green food colouring to the mixture, to give your fingers an even witchier look!
