Written by: Nyka

(Makes about 40 hats)

2½ cups of flour

1 tsp baking soda

1 cup of room temperature butter

1¼ cups of white granulated sugar

¼ cup of brown sugar

1½ tsp vanilla

1 egg

2 cups of chocolate chips

A bag of LARGE Hershey’s kisses

Orange (or any other Halloween colour) icing

Thin icing tip

  1. Preheat the oven to 375ºF

  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  3. Beat in the egg, vanilla, flour and baking soda.

  4. In a small pot, melt the chocolate chips. Remember to keep stirring so the chocolate doesn’t burn!

  5. Add the melted chocolate to the mixture.

  6. Grease the baking sheet.

  7. Put the dough onto the sheet in small balls.

  8. Lightly wetting the bottom of a glass, gently press down on each ball, flattening them as much as you can.

  9. Bake in the oven for 10 minutes.

  10. Let the cookies cool for 10 minutes.

  11. When cool, dab a bit of icing place in the middle of all of the cookies and a hershey kiss on top of it.

  12. Using the thin icing tip, ice a ring around each of the Hershey’s kiss to make the ribbon for the witch’s hat!

This recipe can also be done with store bought chocolate cookies, just add the hat!
