A Take on Modern Feminism

Feminist. A person who advocates for the social, political, legal and economical rights for equality between men and women. When you hear the definition of feminist, you realize that what their fighting for isn’t quite so crazy. When you don’t know the literal definition and you go off of what you think of when you hear the word, you may think the definition is “A woman who makes herself seem like a victim all the time and points her finger at everyone else; a hypocrite.” The fact that this is what comes to mind when people think of a feminist is terrible. All they want is equality. Yes, feminists can sometimes sound hypocritical but they are women who are fed up with being told what to do by the men of the world. When a woman is raped, she is sometimes told she was “asking for it”. Women can’t walk home alone at night without feeling like they’re in some sort of danger.

“You’re exposing too much skin”, “Cover up”, “Don’t wear tight clothing, you look like a streetwalker”, “Stop wearing such baggy clothes, you look like a slob”, “The way you look is distracting to those around you”.

These are some things that females are told almost every single day, all so that they’re not distracting to the opposite sex or so they don’t draw too much attention to themselves. Women are getting more and more fed up with being seen as sexual objects. People need to wake up and smell the flowers, it’s the 21st century.
